Freeze !

After all our travelling we just wanted to relax a bit at home today. We've looked at our Christmas presents for the first time properly. I love good books.

Just one short excursion to our nearest reserve at Risley Moss. As we were sitting in a hide watching birds feeding, there was a sudden cacophony of noise - blackbirds alarm calls. And then suddenly a female sparrow hawk shot in to the left and could not be seen. Was she waiting for a bird to break cover. Absolute silence ensued, and no movement. And this male great spotted woodpecker froze, and stayed absolutely still for quite a long time, until he decided the moment had passed and it was safe to move.
