Time runs away
Into Glasgow this afternoon for a concert, and I snapped this just as we were about to go in.
The Clyde clock is one of my favourite public works of art in the city.
It’s a quirky sculpture of a square clock on a pair of stainless steel running legs standing in the concert square adjoining the bus station and opposite the Royal Concert Hall- so it gets a lot of people passing who are in a hurry.
Made by Scottish artist and sculptor George Wyllie (1921-2012) it also acts as a popular meeting point. (see extra photo).
George Wyllie was a much-loved Glasgow artist.
His work was fun, accessible yet it also made a social point. However the art establishment were very sniffy about him (he had never been to art college) though this mellowed towards the end when he gained international recognition and was awarded an MBE for his contribution to the arts.
