Queen's tears

For me one of the highlights of Christmas is the beautiful flowers that appear on my many Queen's tears plants.
The amazing green and blue petaled flower buds emerge in loose drooping heads from beautiful pink bracts, as the flowers open, the green and blue petals reflex back to display long pollen covered stamens and a twisted pale green style.
Because I have blipped it before (a few times) I thought this time I would just blip the beautiful flowers in macro.
Queen's tears Billbergia nutans, is an epiphytic bromeliad native to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina which is quite tough and can withstand British winters, although mine live in my heated north-facing conservatory. It is a beautiful plant when flowering, but is a rather untidy mess the remainder of the year, and reproduces at an alarming rate!
