Social Work Summit
Attended a social work summit today and it was refreshing. Much input about relationship based social work, the value of supporting the resilience of communities and their capacity to help themselves. My take is that we can’t ignore the political nature of education in this or is it the educational nature of politics? Points from great political activists. There was a profession not so long ago called community work. It covered Community
development, youth work, community education and so much more. I was one of those..... a qualified community worker! It’s a profession that has been erased in many ways and the results of that are now really showing. Here we are now talking in a social work summit about those very things, Community assets, coproduction, transferring of power etc etc some 35 years later..... gone the full circle. Again it all makes my PhD all the more important to me and hopefully to my profession.
