A Birthday 'First' - fireworks on Cromer Pier

We slipped into bed at about 12.05am. It wasn't raucous new year celebrations in our house, but Jon did wish me happy birthday before we went to sleep. I guess that is fairly unique for a new years day birthday, as most people wouldn't necessarily stay awake to see their birthday in...or perhaps they do? Anyway, we woke at 8.30. I made tea and filled the bird feeders in the front, over the stream. Something I've been meaning to do since we broke up for Christmas! That time has certainly flown.

After a late breakfast, Jon and I drove to West Runton. We had longer walk on the beach going towards Cromer then on the way back I did a bit of detecting between the high and low tide marks. I was getting quite a lot of signals. It is a hobby for patient people. I think I'll probably be doing it on my own quite a lot! We did find a small heavy copper looking lid. The detector was accurate in depth and location. I also found a large piece of other random metal, shaped like a roof tile, and a tiny flat silver looking piece of metal. All were quite deep into the wet sand.

Back home at 1.30 I opened some lovely presents. Especially nice to start the new year with a new handbag. It is perfect as I haven't had a new bag since the summer ;) (bags are a bit of an addiction of mine) Thank you Mollie for smuggling it back from Salford in your giant bag!! At least you have a bit of space going home for your own things.

After a bits and pieces lunch we went in to Cromer for the very popular New Years Day fireworks off the pier. Cromer was packed! Parking was a challenge. The fireworks were great and then we went to the arcades. The cheapest birthday entertainment and my preferred choice. I bought £1.50s worth of 2ps which entertained me for half an hour! I won two flashing Christmas badges retrieved 3 two pence coins for my collection (isle of man, Gibraltar and jersey) AND came home with £1.30 in 2p winnings. Has anyone else had a better birthday night out for just 20p net??

Home for more nibbles and tv.

Happy New Year to all my blip friends. I like to hope things will continue to improve in 2018. More ups than downs would be nice. No downs at all would be better! We have no holidays booked, no weekends away planned or special trips anywhere to look forward to. But I hope as the year evolves then opportunities will arise, and we will take them. I really want to get my book published, and must work at that. I intent to continue seeking out bargains; and telling you about It. One thing I do know.....more cheap and cheerful caravan adventures, and camping out in lay bys are a must!!
