Wishes and Intentions

Sue and I spent the first day of the year together for the first time ever. She usually visits her California family in the week after Christmas, but this year she still isn’t well enough to travel. We watched a glorious sunrise, read to each other, had a sprawling brunch of challah bread french toast with Bach for our backdrop. We meditated for an hour and spent much of the rest of the day creating collages that represent our hopes and intentions for the coming year.

Arms, wrists, and hands feature prominently in Sue’s collage, as does a laughing old woman and a few places she’d like to visit, some wishes for friends and relatives in distress, and hope for time to paint. Mine was simpler, though the presence of laughing old women tied our collages together. As they do.

I wish for health and joy for all beings in the coming year. May there be peace. May we all have the rest we need and the activity we crave. May we love each other fiercely and tenderly. May we be happy.
