Juneau
Back blip
We docked at Juneau today and did a whale watching trip.
When we visited 20+ years ago we did a helicopter flight and landed on the Mendenhall glacier, which was just breathtaking. This time we just got to see it from the distance as we sailed out on a smallish boat.
We saw some whales and got some shots which would have been better from one of the even smaller boats (lower angle). But the Stellar sea lions were the most fun as they pushed and shoved each other off the buoys. We also saw a small group pf Harbor seals hauled out on an island as we returned.
The number of Stellar sea lions in the Gulf of Alaska dropped dramatically during the 40yr period from the 1960’s, but have stabilized now. The cause of this is unknown.
