I didn’t fully understand the dexterity elephants have in their trunks; it’s quite incredible to watch them eat a pice of banana tree - which is made up of layers of skins, much like a leek!
They initially tread on it, to get rid of the tough outer layers, then pull out the inner layers and wack it against their legs, breaking it apart further, then pull out the juicy, soft ‘heart’ of the tree, with the tip of their trunk, which has almost the dexterity of a human finger. Quite amazing to watch.
