Poor old Farina

Another stroke of misfortune for poor Farina. She has a massive hoof abscess, so big that the vet wondered that she didn't go lame much worse. Other horses would not have been standing on that leg at all. 
The abscess had to be opened and a big enough opening to be created to let air in, very bad for the anaerobic bacteria currently having a party in the nice toasty hoof, but not big enough to confine her to the stable for ages. 

You wouldn't believe how much blood can come out of a horses hoof! It was streaming like a little river, total gore fest with the vet slashing at the hoof, Farina all sedated thankfully, and the vet still smiled and said, Don't worry! A horse can loose liters of blood without harm! 
The blood was really everywhere, she had to wash it off her face later but the blood clots in her hair had to wait for the shower at home. 
Remember the movie Carrie and the poster scene in that?
