Tomatoes
4th January 2018:
Tomatoes are a big part of the Malawi diet at village level.
Sadly we can't grow the local varieties successfully on the farm. We refuse to use noxious chemicals, so the local, GM varieties are attacked by pests the we can't control with our organic solutions, yet!
Our answer is to grow heirloom varieties from all over the world which we are discovering to be pest resistant.
We are researching seven varieties at the moment from very small and delicious to those weighing up to 800 grams
In the picture are a small vine variety which the villagers will have no time for. They will need size.
I will add the name of this variety later
At the moment we have seven varieties of tomato growing at the factory garden
