Up the Braes wi a hangover

Sarah and I took a jaunt up to Cathkin Braes Country Park this afternoon on the southern edge of Glasgow. My next forestry course project has something to do with the historic influences on an area of ancient semi-natural woodland 'near you' so Big Wood at the Braes seemed as good a choice as any.

The aim of today was to do a cursory survey of tree species present, draw some squiggles on a map and take some pictures. After last night's boozing though I could only really manage the latter so I'll need to head up there again some point soon (I'm away in France for the next three weekends so not sure when this'll happen...). I'd always thought of Big Wood as a primarily beech woodland but we noticed shed loads of common oak today which was nice.

Crunch time for our European Green Capital bid tomorrow - it's due at 4pm. Reckon it's going to be a bit of a brutal Monday. Check out the website for Glasgow's bid if you're at all interested:
