Flower Friday: New Zealand Christmas Tree!
As the forecast was reasonable, we decided to visit Wallington, a National Trust country estate about 18 miles from Newcastle. We knew that the house would be closed, but the grounds and wildlife are worth going for, and there’s some super walking there too. (What’s more, we knew that the café would be open – the most important thing!). Furthermore, they have a lovely conservatory full of beautiful flowers so I knew I’d get my Flower Friday blip there. I took several photos but decided to blip this one, which apparently is on a New Zealand Christmas Tree: we're going there for a holiday shortly so it seemed appropriate! (Blipper rainie - is that really what it is...?!)
We spent some time in the morning in the bird hide; occasionally you get the chance to see a red squirrel there (see this blip), but today we weren’t that lucky. There were lots of birds though. After lunch we went round the riverside walk and were fortunate to see a heron in the field next to the river.
Just as we got back to the car, it started to rain. Lucky again!
There’s a little flickr album of our day here.
Thanks as always to BikerBear Anni for continuing to supervise Flower Friday.
