Combined

1973 was the first year since 1961 that my parents and I led a "normal" family life and managed to see each other several times a week. I was still living at home, studying at Norwich Tech and from time to time spending the odd night at friends in Norwich.

My father was for the first time since 1948 to spend a complete year in the UK. Since we officially returned to the UK from Trinidad in early 1970, he had spent at least 6 months of 1970/1/2 in Greece and Turkey carrying out spraying trials for BP on cotton as part of a research project of the Agricultural Division in finding simple effective less damaging chemicals to replace DDT which had up to then been the main disease spray used on crops. He was at this point based at BPs HQ at Britannic House in the City of London, usually staying there in a flat Monday to Thursday.

Today he had taken time out to come and look at the first test being carried out in the UK and close to our home in Norfolk. I went with him.
Never before or after seen such a mini combine harvester.

Dad is at the rear of combine on the right side photo. My hair was to stay that length and probably got longer for a few more months until a young lady was to insist it was cut. Have to admit in retrospect that with my very fine hair it looked awful most of the time! But that was fashion back then!
