Gathering the Troops

I walked down the garden early morning to a loud chattering of swallows gathering on the power lines that skirt the hay meadow land beyond the boundary.They were busy all day skimming the grasses for insects ready for their journey south,perhaps.There are certainly fewer insects around this year.
I did notice a few bats around the cottage this week but far fewer than in the past.They have roosted in the roof space in the past.Don't tell my mum!
