Chester Town Hall
Something New and Something Old
A historic rapid tour of Chester today. Ancient Roman ruins, Anglo-Saxon then Norman town walls and gates and then the whole Jacobean history and the revolution. Lovely walk around the town walls and fascinating to think that this used to be the most important sea port in the north west. The river Dee came all the way up to these ramparts but has now long receded especially where there is now a lovely race course !
Interesting city Chester with a cathedral (ancient Benedictine monastery) and very loud bell ringing today (Sunday).
Still - they kept out the Welsh !
