New Handrail.....

.....or, if you live north of Watford "New Bannister".

You might wonder why I am getting excited about a new handrail/bannister. When we moved into this house (in 1987) there was no handrail on the wall side of the staircase. At the time we were all fit and healthy, so we decided that we didn't need one. So here we are, 31 years later. My wife's arthritis is causing her severe problems and we knew that a handrail would help, but we didn't know how to go about getting one fitted.

But then, at an exhibition, we had a chance meeting with a chap from our local council's housing department, and he explained that the council's own maintenance team would fit handrails and safety rails not just for council tenants, but for anybody in the area who needed one regardless of their housing status.

So we filled in the form, and today two very pleasant lads from the council arrived and fitted this handrail. Result!
