What's At The Stake

This was taken at Board of Regents meeting today at the University of Arizona.

From Arizona Students Against University Budget Cut facebook group:

[The State]is going through difficult times financially, and that budget cuts are an unfortunate but necessary measure, but we feel that the amount of money being taken from the budget for the state universities is disproportionately large, not to mention unfair to the students at these universities.

A university is a massive asset to a state's economy, producing highly and upwardly mobile individuals for the state's jobs. Cutting millions of dollars in funding to a university only hurts the students, their education, and the state's future.

Recently, the Arizona state legislature proposed a total of nearly $400 million dollars of cuts to the university system. A midyear cut proposed to the State University System calls for approximately $243 million dollars in cuts, $103 million of which would be taken from the University of Arizona, on top of an already $20 million cut from the UA budget.
