There She Goes

Another day exploring.

Omelette to start in the local cafe. Then the tram to meet Luca. A local historian who often takes larger groups around but today just me and Ruby.

We walked to the workshop for the blind that was run by Otto Weidt and saw the original workshop and the hidden room. Then we cut through Hackeshe Hofe to get to the incredible ballroom “ clarchens ballhaus” which is from another time ( including the bullet holes all the way up the stairs and the cracked mirrors in the dining hall). Then on to the Neue Synagogue, through Museum Island and finishing at Forum Fridericianum to hear about the Prussian monarchs and their attempts to encourage people from around the world to live here. It was like a crash course in the real history of Berlin with lots of photos as well to show us how these streets looked in the 1960s and 1970s before bring us up to date in the 21st century. Pretty mind blowing.

After that it was time to walk in the footsteps of Bowie and see the Hansa Studio.

Then it was Thai food followed by beers sat on the bleachers in Mein Haus am See. Lots of people watching, chat and laughs. Nearly as many laughs as when I got off at the wrong stop on the way back to the apartment.
