THE FAIRY TERNS

.....are back for the summer.  Yippee!!  Apparently they are a vulnerable species of seabird (according to the sign).  The local council have fenced off an area at Rous Head (towards North Mole) for their yearly breeding.  The Fairy Terns arrive just before Christmas and leave in autumn for the dry season in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia - a long way to fly for such a small bird.  They are so cute.
Although I haven't captured one in flight, I really liked the shot I did capture.
The extra shows the little hutch/coop that the council erects yearly to protect the babies from the heat during nesting.
