Pied Stilt
The pied stilt chick we have been following is no longer there. Blip mate warned me yesterday that it hadn't been seen and when I walked that path this morning there were no parents shouting warnings, and no chick.
The danger could have come from the air with hawks or the NZ falcon or from below from eels and other small bird predators.
This pair may have been the parents - they were fishing in the main part of the inlet.
Mono Monday fits how I feel about the loss of first one chick then the remaining one. For the theme of four, well there are 4 long legs or, if you count their reflections, 4 birds.
