At the Football
Miss E isn't miserable or grumpy in this picture. Unfortunately for her she has inherited my "relaxed" face which makes you look like the most miserable person on the planet. Either that or murderous!!
Third time at the football for me and Miss E today. So far she's seen a loss and a draw. I was hoping today would be third time lucky and she'd see a win!
Alas it was not to be! But it was a good game - we were deservedly losing 2-0 at half time but came back to draw 2-2, equalising in the 90th minute which is always a joy!!
The day nearly went very wrong when I noticed Watford Junction go whizzing by the train window at 100mph.
Hmmm, we wouldn't be getting off there then!!!!
I had been on autopilot at Milton Keynes station and got on the first train to London without thinking. It was a non-stop train. Oops!!!!!
I Googled trains back from Euston to Watford and as luck would have it there was one fifteen minutes after we got there.
As even more luck would have it, it went from the opposite platform and it was already there so we only had to walk ten paces or so and get on it.
Miss E was naturally dubious about my ability to correctly identify a train and must have asked a dozen times was I sure this was the right train!!!
Thankfully it was and thankfully there were no ticket inspectors between Euston and Watford to have to explain why we were on the train without a valid ticket.
Once we got back to Watford it was like it had never happened!!
We walked towards the ground amidst crowds of Watford fans. I love that!!!
Large chips each from the usual chippy by the stadium - with completely excessive amounts of salt and vinegar - and then it was time to go in.
Before kick off there was a very moving tribute to Graham Taylor to mark a year since his death. The screens showed montages of our best moments under him - I was lucky enough to be there for some of them - and then, as the team came out, all the fans (including, to their credit, the Southampton fans) held their scarves up. It looked amazing. Fantastic to be part of.
Then followed a forty five minutes it's best to gloss over. It was freezing, we played like donkeys and were 2-0 down at half time!!
Miss E was just about turning blue by the time we got our half time tea, hot chocolate and giant Twixes.
Luckily the second half was better. We scored in the 58th minute and then again in the 90th. Brilliant!!!!
Miss E pointed out that even though it was a draw, they probably felt like they lost. And she seemed happy about that!!!
She's such a proper football fan!!
Walking back into town after the match we got chatting to a few other fans and apparently our equaliser was a blatant hand ball. A travesty when it goes against you but just one of those things when it's goes your way!
We popped to John Lewis to leave my phone on charge for half an hour while we went to Lush and tried out all the goodies. Miss E has discovered Lush recently and was in seventh heaven.
The woman working there took a shine to Miss E and gave her a unicorn bomb bath bomb for free. Miss E looked as though she'd won the lottery!!!
The journey home was ace - I love the way everyone recognises you as part of the gang and talks to you!
We made the train by the skin of our teeth - the right train! - and had a lovely half hour chatting to a couple of Watford fans and a Leicester fan - all in their sixties and full of so many stories and memories. They were so sweet to Miss E saying it nice to see the next generation!
Mr K picked us up at the station and then it was home for Dominoes Pizza (them) and Weetabix (me) and Hotel Transylvania before bed.
