Not quite gone to plan
I didn't sleep very well last night and had an early start. Turns out G didn't sleep so well either. Dropped G off at school on a very foggy morning. Fortunately, the traffic flowed smoothly. As it is the date (chosen by the web developer) for the website to go live, G had a shorter day and I picked her up again at 10:30. We raced back to watch the countdown timer tick over at noon, except nothing happened. So I got in touch with the web developer and it turns out that a small change was made and according to his laptop, there were still six hours to go! Argh. Why is he so uncommunicative?!
Anyway, as we had some time, we decided to visit the RTA's main Customer Happiness Centre, a decision we bitterly regretted. As you can imagine, it didn't go very well. On to the next thing which was to collect the cake (in the thumbnail). All good here except it wasn't presented as I had agreed with the man who took the order. The previous two incidents of the day helped put things in perspective though, so we happily walked out with the cake.
There was enough time to get ready for our guests who started arriving at 4:30. A very tiny gathering - we were five in all - and you can see the spread. As we were together at 6pm, we did another countdown and *shock, horror*, the same thing happened! We all handled it well and were very philosophical, but boy was I disappointed. Hopefully, I will get some answers tomorrow.
In the meantime, we had a great high tea, and enjoyed sandwiches, samosas, cake, chocolate and . . . ta da . . . champagne in the form of Veuve Cliquot! (Very generously provided by Jessica - I don't know how I am going to go back to Prosecco!).
We chatted and exchanged Dubai stories - as you do. This one about the blocking of Skype made us smile though.
