Snippets of other people's lives

Those snippets, like parts of overheard conversations where you never know the whole story.
This part of this story looks like a middle bit - I have no idea of the beginning, but it does sound as though people were kind, and that it was appreciated.  I hope that he and/or the dog make a full recovery for a happy ending.
