Drastic Surgery

I have been wielding the knife, well, billhook, and begun knocking down the hedges. This is great fun as long as thornproof gauntlets and safety specs are used. You should see the piles of brash that come out. The hedge will be (almost) stockproof and will result in a dramatic explosion of young, vigorous growth from the base giving a much healthier-looking barrier providing greater refuge for wildlife. I'll post a mid-summer follow-up image to see how things have progressed. Much more to do yet before the spring.
