Akha lady

Today we went to the Akha Mudhouse Maesalong in Chaingrai. This village is part of a government programme to re educate tribal people who used to be involved in the opium trade. They do not wear their traditional clothes all the time ,mainly for the benefit of visitors. We were shown around the village and lands where they grow a great variety of fruit and veg which enables them to be self sufficient. We then participated in preparing some of the ingredients for lunch which we saw being cooked over gas burners.Everything was from their gardens and was really delicious. After lunch I was shown how to sew the bracelets made with seeds which we had seen for sale.Mine was pretty poor in comparison to theirs!
