Water receding
Last week this road was impassable with about 18 inches of water at it deepest point. It is the A1101 and crosses the floodplain between two rivers which is deliberately flooded to lower the river level and prevent flooding of habitation. The diversion is 24 miles to get from one end of the ½ mile flooded section of the causeway to the other! Some years it is flooded for several weeks if there is heavy rain or snow in the East Midlands filling the Nene and Ouse rivers. The area is about ½ mile wide and 12 miles long and incorporates the RSPB Ouse Washes reserve and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney.
The 'extra' is a beautiful willow tree blowing in the strong wind and showing the lovely gold colour which precedes the leaves
