Stuff and Nonsense

Day #4 Fuerte Amador, Panama - Monkey Watch

Today we are in Panama – Fuerte Amador to be precise. We woke up to a lovely sunrise, but it was very muggy and rain was in the air. ..

We’d booked to go on a tour called Monkey Watch and after tendering into the port and then getting on the bus, the heavens opened and it chucked it down. I'm not talking a few spots, I'm talking road flooding in less than 5 minutes type of rain! Luckily it was a 50 minute drive to Lake Gatun and the park and just before we arrived, it started to clear up and we were spared the drenching of the first day. Bus #13 was lucky for us after all.

We were transferred to 2 smallish boats and set out on our quest. We actually ended up seeing 3 different species of monkey – White Headed Capuchin, Howler and Geoffroy's Tamarin. The Howler monkeys are quite territorial and don’t come so near to the boats, but the other 2 species are very friendly and come right down when they are called. They were also enticed by some bananas :))

We also saw some nice birds, an iguana dragonflies and some wonderful yellow butterflies - I was in my element and LOVED it!

My main blip is the cheeky capuchin and in extras I have put the howler monkey being a bit grumpy at being disturbed and a very rude Tamarin poking his tongue out.
