It's not coincidental that the agreement between Holyrood and Westminster signed yesterday has Scotland's independence referendum being called in the same year that sees the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.

The heritage centre and monument near Bannockburn are also due to reopen in 2014, after a major overhaul which began in earnest a couple of weeks back. We stopped off there today to freeze our bits off wandering around the fenced off site. It's looking very sorry for itself nowadays so the reboot isn't before time.

King Robert seems to have been squarely placed on one side of the fence until then. Me... I'm still sitting on top of it I think, after trying to avoid all the brouhaha surrounding the rather emotive subject, and not sure which side I'll fall on. Now that it's properly going ahead I'm going to take the next couple of years to make my mind up. No rush.

I think it might be more difficult for for the likes of Euan, who's only 14 now with a head full of school, video games, Family Guy and other teenage pursuits, but who will have the same opportunity to vote on his country's future now that it's been agreed 16 and 17 year olds will be able to participate. That's a pretty big thing indeed as he'll be a worldly-wise and mature 16 and a few weeks by then.

Whatever happens, it's probably going be a bit scrappy on the journey there, but at least we'll have a nice shiny new high-tech visitor centre whatever way it goes.

Politics. Pfft.

*Somewhat serendipitously we found ourselves picking up the car after its MOT around 1pm today, just along the road from here; couldn't not go down and fire off a few shots to hit those numbers
