Jungleland

My Dear Princess & Dear Fellows,

I was busy today. Not the bad kind, the fun kind, where you just focus on IT like it is a puzzle that can be solved.

Ordinary people will not understand this and think us sad, but you three will get it. You know that when you're not being irritated by stupid managers and stupid bureaucracy and stupid change controls then sitting down and trying to solve an IT problem can be like trying to do a crossword.

Or a "join the dots" picture of a bunny, if you are a change manager.

I'm back to working with Salesforce again. Only not crappy Slack Salesforce, I'm getting to design a whole new system the way it should be done. It is sort of fun.

But I find that I can't concentrate on podcasts and do Salesforce at the same time, so today I decided to listen to Bruce Springsteen. I have not listened to him in aaaaaages. I think it has been about 20 years. Those songs remind me of being a teenager. Bruce Springsteen was my first concert, in Roundhay Park in Leeds in July 1985. It was a blistering hot day and I was in love for the first time. Listening to "Thunder Road" brought it all back.

I remember getting annoyed with the NME that summer. They gave his single, "Cover Me" a low rating because of Ronald Reagan's policy in the Middle East. You have to admit, even looking back, it's a bit w&nky.

It's a hot day here today as well, so I was still humming "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" on my way home. I was in such a good mood I decided to stop off for a fish supper on the way home. I ate them with chippy sauce (thank you Princess) and watched an episode of "Star Trek" in which god-like aliens lord it over Kirk*. And it was the best fish supper I've had since I got here (Punky agreed).

And THEN Er Indoors informed me that Monday is a Wellington holiday! I thought it was odd that my manager kept asking me to do things "on Tuesday" today. A bonus holiday! That's like finding a fiver in an old jacket!

In other words, it has been a good day. Maybe next week I will listen to ABC's "The Lexicon of Love". Look, for your information, it's the one thing, the one thing that still holds true.

S.

* Gold-like aliens do this to him every alternate episode.
