Today we travelled by train first class (Luke’s Christmas gift to me) to London to go watch part one and part two of The Cursed Child, the Harry Potter play at the Palace Theatre.
We had to run for the train as we were late but thankfully we made it and enjoyed a few complimentary cups of tea to relax on the journey.
We arrived in London St Pancras and dropped our luggage off at Charing Cross to collect after the show. We left the station and walked the short journey past Trafalgar, Piccadilly and China Town to get to Soho and the Palace Theatre. We joined the queue to get inside and met a lovely lady from Oregon in front of us who was visiting London while her husband was working here and she had got a ticket to see the show alone. She was very excited to see the play.
Inside the theatre we had a quick look at the gift shop before getting some popcorn and a drink and finding our seats in the stalls. It wasn’t long to wait before the music started and the show began - an incredible mix of movement, magic, effects, music and excellent acting talent especially from Harry, Draco and Scorpius.
Part one ended with a fabulous cliff hanger and then we came out for dinner before part two.
We first stopped at the House of MinaLima around the corner on Greek Street where the graphic artists of all 8 Harry Potter films now have a gallery and shop. We enjoyed spotting our favourite artwork for props and items in the films and bought a few items in the shop.
We decided to go to a Mexican restaurant for dinner and I had 3 types of tacos and Luke had a steak fajita. We had some delicious cocktails a Pepino with mescal and I had a hibiscus margarita.
After churros and chocolate for dessert we headed back inside to the theatre and bought some lovely items in the gift shop including Scorpius’s wand, a full-colour program album and some Hufflepuff goodies.
Back in our seats we sat riveted through the rest of part two and gave rapturous applause at the finale after laughter and tears for the characters.
Amazing, magical show, when can I see it again?!
Today I am super grateful for being able to watch this theatrical masterpiece with my favourite Gryffindor and for him spoiling me rotten!
