For some one special, who may or may not see it! If they do they will know its for them.
RE "Thing of Purpose" was able to check my thoughts on it un prompted with our old farm manager. He also thinks its part of a horse ploughing trace / harness. The hook can be set in three positions with in its ring to allow a degree of " off set "and the long pointed end would have gone through a wooden spidle ( the end swell securing it ) on the harness.
