The Shwedagon Pagoda
Arrived today in Yangon, Myanmar. It's a city congested with traffic, cars only as motor bikes are banned. A real mix of cultures ,with old and new buildings next to each other and street markets cheek by jowl with modern shopping malls. We had a fascinating walk around the teeming streets but the real highlight was to visit the Shwedagon Pagoda at sunset. The whole complex of temples covers 14 acres dominated by the massive pagoda which is 326 feet high. There were hundreds of people there, many buying offerings, lighting candles and kneeling to pray all around the various temples. A truly unforgettable experience.
