Pot bound and nowhere to grow
I have had this Vriesea bromeliad for several years and it has bloomed a few times. While doing some research to find out how to separate this thing, I found out that each stalk will only bloom once and then will have "pups". The pups will grow and bloom the next time..about once a year. So I decided to clean up this plant and only keep the pups that look like they are getting ready to bloom. I think the two with the red leaves are the start of a bloom, which is the flat waxy kind that grows up on a stalk. I really enjoyed reading up on these as there are so many different kinds and most are easy to grow with little maintenance.
As you can see in the photos, the sun was shining brightly today and it is 65F (18C) and feels wonderful!! Makes me want to plant spring flowers!
