Proof of life

Port Buchan

I love canals. The tranquillity, the industrial heritage, the notion that at one time, they were a hive of activity.

I also like that they are often hidden, meandering silently under (or over) the roads and railways that replaced them.

Imagine my delight to be in Broxburn (not often said) and to happen upon Port Buchan, on Union Canal, accessible just off the main road. Nothing much to see but some swans and the Red Grouse (though it was blue) breaking the ice.
