Evacuees

Today we took some ‘evacuees’ to Stockport to be ‘billetted’ for the rest of ‘World War 2’. We visited the underground air raid shelters that run for miles and miles underneath Stockport town centre. You would never guess they were there. They are now set out as a museum so the children saw what the canteen would look like, the toilets, the bunk area and the hospital and first aid tunnels. What a place! If you get a chance they are well worth a visit.

The afternoon was spent in the museum practising how to put gas masks on in a raid, how to put out incendary bombs, making rag rugs and loads more. Again, a cracking place well worth a visit.

Sardine sandwiches and an authentic tunnock bar (or two) was also a highlight!
