Beautiful Maggie
For the last three days I haven't added a single bird photo to my journal (my daughter will be impressed!) but today, the drought is over, I just have to blip a bird again...
A week ago, I introduced you all to a baby Magpie, sitting all alone in a tree which is actually in our neighbours garden, but it overhangs our driveway.
Checking back through my journal, however, I have noticed that I have not added one single photo of an adult Magpie. What an oversight that is!
Today I have had the entire Magpie family passing the time of day in my favourite tree in my back garden. There are two adults and two babies, who haven't been out of the nest very long at all.
The adults are so tame and often fly right down to my back veranda when they hear me open the door. Even when I have been very close to the baby birds, they have not seemed to consider me a threat to their babies.
Tonight I have been searching the web to find an answer to my question, "how do I tell the difference between the male and female Magpie?" I was hoping that I would be able to tell you all if today's blip is a male or female Maggie.
No such luck! Apparently the white on the back of the female's head is slightly grey. I took photos of both adults and both babies today, and can't see any difference from the photos at all! I will have a closer look tomorrow, when the Maggies are here for breakfast.
Now, having spent so much time searching Google, it is nearly midnight and I haven't visited any blip journals! I do apologise, and will be dropping by tomorrow.
