2018 Tuesday— Paper Plates

Such a fun day! Had no idea at the beginning that we’d received an “E” ticket for adventure and delight (I suppose an “E” ticket doesn’t make much sense if a person didn’t grow-up in SoCal).

We had left a voicemail yesterday with our dog groomer to get an appt for the three pooches to get a bath. Well, the groomer phoned this morning to say the pups could come in at noon. Once there she announced that they’d be ready at 4:30. Woohoo!!! We had all afternoon to head out for an adventure.

We headed into San Luis Obispo (SLO) to explore some of the city’s thrift stores, but the first stop was the “House of Bread” for lunch. Delicious!!! That put us in the neighborhood of the Goodwill Store.

As we entered, we were told that all furniture and all yellow tagged items were half price. We looked the whole store over and I found two bed sheets — one sized for a large California King and the other is queen size. Both are a pleasing green shade and both are satin. I will use them on top of our bed to help keep the dog fur off of our bedspead and blankets — $3.99 each. One was yellow-tagged, so the total price was a great big $6.00.

Mr. Fun needed tires for his recumbent bicycle, so we stopped at the bike store on Marsh Street. We found a free parking space behind the store and I saw a consignment store, “A Change of a Dress,” on my phone map while he was in shopping for tires. So we walked a block to see all the lovely articles of clothing, but the price tags were much too high, so I just caressed the blouses and sighed a few times, and left after Mr. Fun ended his conversation with the proprietor (who told us she lives in Morro Bay).

Back in the car, we decided to stop at the main branch of the Public Library to look for a couple of DVDs that we’ve been wanting to see. We “borrowed” the children’s movie, Frozen and a couple others. That’s where I viewed the announcement for Valentine craft making with paper plates.

Again back in the car we aimed toward (the one-way) Higuera Street to drive and look for Fred & Betty’s Thrift Store, and oh my, what a cute place! It felt more like a large boutique, with an entire area decorated for Valentines Day — which has become a favorite holiday and (of course) some of the red decorations do double duty and find themselves parading again in December. I purchased four red oval placemats, the quilted kind, for a buck each. A little red velvet infant beret with a rhinestone brooch begged me to buy it, and well, I did. I don’t think our great granddaughter Jade can wear it (size is 3-6 mos), but maybe one of her dollies might. I also found two throw pillows (I‘m not planning to throw them) each with a lighthouse design. I’ll put one on our mermaid bed and the other on the downstairs guest bed. I sprayed them both thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide and rubbed them clean. And finally, I found me a pair of shoes to wear to school. I asked the clerk “How much are shoes?” and she said each pair is marked individually on the soles. I flipped the shoes over to see the symbol “2” staring at me. I found “almost” new shoes for two dollars! Fred & Betty’s Thrift Store (I love it)!!!

Back in the car, Mr. Fun was on the his phone in a long conversation with his mom. Time was ticking, the pups would soon need to be rescued from the groomer, and I had one more desired stop on that one-way street: the Wilshire’s Hospice Thrift Store and that is where I found the cutest Valentine coffee cup. That completed my Tuesday Thrift Trip Travels.

Next stop was clean dogs!
