Books
It was john39 a couple of weeks ago who alerted me to the fact that there was yet another Greek Victoria Hislop gracing the shelves of bookshops around the world and I checked with him first to see if it included her usual two cardboard cut-out characters; the perfect but downtrodden wife and the odious overbearing husband. He assured me it did not. This came as refreshing news to me because I have become so heartily sick of these two popping up everywhere that I even once took it upon myself to write to Victoria's husband at his office to see if he could tell me where she got the inspiration for them. It will come as no surprise to hear that I didn't receive a response, not even a satirical one.
Having made an oath never to use Amazon, and having once been thwarted by Amazon selling stuff through e-Bay under a false name, I turned to this list for my book purchasing and, finding the Guardian bookshop listed therein with a green light, I was double-thrilled! You see I have recently switched my main news go-to site to The Guardian and feel a bit guilty about having never sent them any pennies, but it's difficult for me to do that whilst single-handedly supporting Germany by paying exponential taxes to Greece. So I would support The Guardian Newspaper by purchasing a book from their online bookshop.
And they were having a sale! So I treated myself to two more, and here they are. So excited!
