St. Edward Catholic Church, Clifford

Passing through the village of Clifford this morning, the sun suddenly came out from the clouds and I was struck by how radiant the stone Church looked in the light. As the camera was in the back of the car (of course), we stopped for a quick blip.
My research tells me that the church was built in the 1830s to serve the population of Irish workers that came to work in the nearby flax mill that existed in the village. Many of the local buildings are built from the same yellow magnesian limestone, which does look rather splendid in the winter sunshine.
