Lake Brunner
We took the double kayak over to Lake Brunner today. It is a long drive, but worth it for fantastic weather, and a dead calm lake.
After we'd finished our paddle, we sat on the grass watching this interesting contraption make its way out into the lake. It runs on a lawn mower motor, and heads out across the water for four minutes. It can be hauled back in with the winch the guys are operating. What on earth is the point of it, you may wonder? They told us that it is for fishing. Send it out from the shore (it is designed for the West Coast), and hang a line off it. Then pull it back in when you think you might have caught something. Apparently it does work. An old man's toy, we were told! The man who made it also told us that it can be used to rescue kayaks. That might actually be useful too, along the coast. Just tie onto it, and be hauled back in to shore.
