I love the ODC group, you get to learn all sorts of new photography terms, this being no exception.

Contre-jour (n. French) refers to a technique whereby a photograph is taken with the light source pointed directly at the camera, with the light source behind the subject. This normally hides details in the subject and causes a stronger contrast between light and dark. The result is a dark silhouette against the bright source light.
