Love is in the air

Very much a "spring is in the air" feel about today. Mix of sunshine and clouds, and quite cool. But what makes it different is the sound of the bird song. It is subtly different to that heard even a week ago. It's a much happier, more upbeat song that they sing. Many more trills and whistles.

This photo, though not good quality as taken on little phone camera, I think sums it up. Everywhere you look now the birds are in pairs, getting themselves ready for the upcoming breeding season.

It's quite cute when you see them now not in huge winter feeding flocks but instead going about 2 by 2. Actually, there was evidence of this before Xmas. The jackdaws seem to be the first ones to pair up. We also noticed bluetits taking an interest in the nest box above the back door.

I imagine we'll be seeing the rooks collecting twigs soon. That's always a smiley activity.

The photo is of 2 crows who were sunning themselves in the tree, cawing away to each other. Again with a song/tune/voice? that is not the usual cawing you hear from such creatures. This was what caught my 'ear', hence I looked up and spotted them.
