Flying high on Minchinhampton Common
I saw in the distance that kites were flying on Minchinhampton Common; at one point seven were airborne. The wind was strong and the light was dull under the thick scudding clouds.
But whilst standing watching the fliers who were obviously having fun, I heard a skylark singing high above me. I focused on where the sound was coming from and then spotted it hovering at the top of its flightpath and only a short distance from two of the less mobile kites. The skylark didn't seem troubled by the competition for space.
