Mortar

Walking the spaniel across a newly cleared area of the common this afternoon I spotted the tail fin of a mortar bomb sticking up out of the dead grass. Finds like these are not uncommon here since the area was used as a military training ground during both the first and second world wars but its the first I've found for a few years. This time I didn't have to call the authorities - only the tail fin remained, the rest of the mortar having exploded on impact.
