Pecking order
Finally had a free hour to do my Big Garden Birdwatch this morning (see yesterday's entry). Thankfully the weather was much kinder than yesterday, even though I didn't leave the relative comfort of my kitchen.
Not much variety to report: apart from a couple of Collared Doves pecking the seeds on the ground, the only other visitors this morning - and there were plenty of them - were House Sparrows and Starlings, taking it in shifts to feed on the fat balls. In truth, the former were more interested in the seed feeder once the starlings made their appearance.
And it was the starlings who made it into my Blip for the day: either by knowing their place in the grand scheme of things and waiting until the others had left or by trying to muscle in when other starlings were feeding, only to be warned off by some squawking and mad flapping of wings.
