Het zaate herremenieke

The Zaate herremenieke is a group of enthusiasts who play different instruments at the carnival festivities and often let hear in the streets and cafe their sounds and songs.
It is a kind of drunk bladder chapel / drunk brass band.

Against the background of the Sint-Servaas Church and St. John's Church, the colorful figures of the sculpture group "het zaate herremenieke" enter the Vrijthof. They symbolize the Carnival festival that is celebrated on the square every year. The Vrijthof is the meeting place par excellence. People come together here to stroll, to sit on a terrace or to visit one of the many festivities. The Preuvenemint, Winterland, fairs, carnival and big concerts are held there. In the vernacular, the Vrijthof is called the "Mestreech vane room" - the living room of Maastricht. The square has been the pride of every Maastricht citizen for centuries.
