ROTUNDA

This is the Rotunda Museum, Scarborough, UK which was built in 1829 to house a very special fossil collection. It is a memorial to William Smith, the Father of English Geology.
Smith came to Scarborough after his release from a debtors' prison and the dramatic Jurassic coastline of Yorkshire offered him an area of geological richness.

It is one of the oldest purpose-built museums in the country and built from local Hackness Stone. Upstairs is a most dramatic circular gallery. An already curved grade II listed building, the two wings were added in 1860. I have tried to emphasise the curve in this shot.
Just bought an annual pass today, incredible value at £4 for the year ! Bargain !

As I speak Yorkshire Cricket are being hammered in the Champions League Twenty 20 in South Africa. Oh dear !!!
