paperbark and pepperberries...
...bush tucker from the Sunday market (the berries) and a paperbark tree that sheds its beautiful bark in papery ribbons in our local car park!
The Tasmanian pepperberry is pungent and earthy with a touch of spice and heat, perfect for crushing onto meat and veggies and yes...flavouring icecream!
The once a month appearance of the 'Spice Fetish' stall at our local market is a treat as there is always something seasonal tucked away in a spicy packet ready for the bbq, 'down under' spiced casserole or tagine.
Meanwhile back at the carpark paperbark tree, the sheets of bark peel apart like tissue thin baking parchment. Ready to wrap around fish on the bbq or dampened and piled on straight onto prawns and shellfish popping on a coals on a beach fire.
Now that must be foraging!
And as a PS...apparently pepper releases the curcumin in turmeric. The ducks nuts of the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components in turmeric.
