Ancient willow
These old willows, which seem to be common alongside most watercourses in England (or at least in southern and midland England - I'm less sure about elsewhere in the country) seem eventually to rot away from the inside, but then just regenerate from the outside and keep going even after they've fallen down. They appear to be a paradise for birds and insects and I often see bees going in and out of them during the summer. They look as if they're waiting for a fairytale to appear in.
