Lanterns

The red lanterns are out, as part of the celebration of the forthcoming Chinese New Year - the Year of the Dog, I believe.

I was in Manchester to see The Post, which was a thoroughly enjoyable account of the Washington Post's dilemmas over publication of scandalous information about the Vietnam War, in 1971. Co-stars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks were terrific, as were the rest of a large ensemble cast. So much so that I forgot I was watching actors - until one minor false step near the end when MS made a speech which, in effect, told us how important are the issues portrayed in the film.  To me that was unnecessary and clunky. Anyone who had watched the movie would have already "got" that or be irredeemably authoritarian.
